VIIRGINIA "GINNY" AMUNDSON
October 7, 1937 - AUGUST 29, 2016
Funeral services for Virginia "Ginny" Amundson of Blue Earth, formerly of Frost, were held September 3, 2016, at United Lutheran Church, Frost, with the Rev. Arne Halbakken officiating. Burial was at the Dell Lutheran Cemetery, rural Frost. Ginny died August 29, 2016, at Minneapolis.
Ginny was born October 7, 1937, at Litchfield, MN, the daughter of Paul and Caroline (Thompson) Nimz. The family moved to the Frost area where she attended school, graduating in 1955. After graduation, she jumped on a bus for Biloxi, Mississippi, where she met up wit her high school sweetheart, Donald E. Amundson. They were married on June 10, 1955, in the Air Force Chapel at Keesler AFB, the first of 18 moves during their 61 years of marriage, living in six states and in Bangladesh.
Don and Ginny raised their two daughters and helped raise five foster children while in the Frost area and one (John Gotham) while in Sandpoint, ID and Bangladesh. While living in Frost, Ginny drove school bus for 14 years and worked at the State Bank of Frost for nine years. They left Frost in 1977 and settled back in the Blue Earth area after retirement in 1998. Ginny liked to travel, visiting all 50 states, spend time with her family, get together with her coffee group on Monday mornings and volunteer at St. Luke's Lutheran Care Center until her health declined.
Ginny is survived by her loving husband, Donald E. Amundson of Blue Earth and by two daughters, Wendy (Jim) Anderson of marine on St. Croix, MN and Debra (Chuck) Gullord of Visalia, CA, foster son John (Claire) Gotham of Atlanta and his three children; six grandchildren, Mitch (Michelle) Anderson, Nikki (Matt) Brandt, Brendt Anderson, Brenda (Chuck) Nelson, Kayleigh (Derek) Verissimo, Candice (Chris) Whitaker, eight (soon to be nine) great-grandchildren; her sister Viiolet (Nimz) Young of Alden and many nieces, nephews and friends all over the country.
She was preceded in death by her parents, parent-in-law, Elvin and Dorothy Amundson, brothers-in-law, Larry Young, Darwin (Pete) Amundson and Roger Halverson and nephews, James (Jim) Oswald and Dan Amundson.
