Leo M. Maland

Funeral Services for longtime Frost business owner Leo Maland were July 27, 2005 at South Blue Earth Lutheran Church, rural Bricelyn. Leo died July 22, 2005, at St. Luke's Lutheran Care Center, Blue Earth.
Leo was born January 7, 1911, at Frost, the son of Joseph and Bertha (Mikkelson) Maland. He graduated from Bricelyn High School and attended Waldorf College and later graduated from St. Olaf College. He owned and operated Maland Suply Co. (Texaco) in Frost. He owned the business more than 40 years, retiring in 1978.
He was married to Arline M. Kallestad on April 6, 1942 in Frost. He was a lifelong resident of Frost where he served as mayor, was grandmarshall of the centennial celebration, was a member of the Sons of Norway and the Norwegian Historical Society.
He was an active member of South Blue Earth Lutheran Church where he served as treasurer for 30 years. Leo had a lifelong interest in genealogy and spent many hours researching his family history. He was active with the South Blue Earth Lutheran Cemetery Association where is put his geneaology skill to work keeping the ceterery's history.
Leo is survived by two sons: Joe (Ruth) Maland of Galesville, Wisconsin, and Paul (Sue) Maland of Phoenix, and by four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife in 1993, a son, Jon Maland, and a brother, Thilmer Maland.
